What: Horse Racing Betting Tips – (9) Grade 1 and (3) Grade 2 Races
Where: Belmont Park, Parx Racing, Santa Anita, Hoosier Park
When: Saturday, October 1st
Handicappers, sharpen your pencils! There’s a whopping nine (9) Grade 1 races nationwide on Super Saturday, with an additional three (3) Grade 2 events that are equally compelling. Due to space constraints, I’ll simply list those dozen races in Post Time order, with a brief comment about each.
2:47 ET – BELMONT PARK RACE 5 – The Flower Bowl Invitational: #8-Stacelita looks awfully tough, regardless of the condition of the turf course, which has taken some rain in the last few days. The main danger appears to be #1-Deluxe, who received a useful prep at Saratoga. Outside/Inside exacta.
3:22 ET – BELMONT PARK RACE 6 – The Joe Hirsch Turf Classic Invitational: #1-Cape Blanco towers over this bunch. #5-Winchester should be along for second. Both handle turf with some “give” to it.
3:57 ET – BELMONT PARK RACE 7 – The Vosburgh Invitational: This race sets up nicely for #8-Trappe Shot, who should gun down the speed with an outside run. He loves Belmont, and track condition won’t matter. Sprint Champ #6-Big Drama will be ready come November...maybe not this time.
4:33 ET – BELMONT PARK RACE 8 – The Kelso Handicap: #3-Uncle Mo appears ready to strut his stuff.
4:58 ET – PARX RACING RACE 10 – The Cotillion: On the chance that both #3-Plum Pretty and #4-It’s Tricky are a bit fatigued from their earlier battles, I’ll take a shot with regally-bred #5-Love and Pride from the Todd Pletcher barn. She’s sharp and gets in light at 114. I’ll bet on Love and Pride to win at odds of 4-1 or better.
5:06 ET – BELMONT PARK RACE 9 – The Beldame Invitational: Beyer Speed Figures don’t support this play, but I’m leaning toward #2-Royal Delta to knock off #5- Havre de Grace. The Mott trainee has a big win over the Belmont strip, while the favorite is making her local bow. ‘Delta’s also training “lights out” for this engagement. Demand value, however…I’ll bet on Royal Delta to win at odds of 2-1 or better.
5:46 ET – BELMONT PARK RACE 10 – The Jockey Club Gold Cup: #1-Flat Out (POE with #1a-Birdrun) turned in the best race of his career at “The Beautiful B”. However, he’ll be at a tactical disadvantage vs. #4-Stay Thirsty, who should secure an early stalking position. Stay Thirsty my friend!
6:10 ET – SANTA ANITA RACE 5 – The Norfolk: Tough to separate the two favorites, but I’m leaning toward #5-Drill. While neither he nor #4-Creative Cause has raced on dirt, at least Drill has turned in a pair of eye-catching local drills.
6:15 ET – HOOSIER PARK RACE 12 – The Indiana Derby: Will the real Shackleford please stand up! #6-Caleb’s Posse’s as sharp as a tack, but you’ll note his top two-turn Beyer is a modest (pair of) 92’s. I’ll bet on #1a-Shackleford (POE with #1-Friends Place) to win at odds of 3-2 or better.
6:43 ET – SANTA ANITA RACE 6 – The Lady’s Secret: #1-Blind Luck has a will to win like few others, and the talent to match. No way I’m picking against her, but she’s coming off a 2 ½-month break, so beware.
7:16 ET – SANTA ANITA RACE 7 – The Goodwood: There’s no rating #8-Game On Dude in The Goodwood…connections are going to play “catch me if you can”. With the switch to dirt, I’m picking the ‘Dude at odds of 5-2 or better to turn the tables on #1-Acclamation and #7-Awesome Gem.
8:48 ET – SANTA ANITA RACE 10 – The Yellow Ribbon: Her 4YO campaign has been a disappointment thus far, but look for #7-Harmonious to return to her winning ways in The Yellow Ribbon. She won her only try at the distance, in last year’s Grade 1 American Oaks at Hollywood Park, and guess who was aboard that day…Martin Garcia. The pair will be reunited on Saturday, and I’ll be betting on them to get the job done at odds of 3-1 or better.
