NFL Betting Preseason Weekend Preview - Eli Manning

Week 3 is generally the most exciting week of the preseason in NFL betting.

Many coaches give their starters the most work this week in order to let them rest up for the start of the regular season next week.

Let’s take a look at some of the best matchups taking place this weekend, which should be even better with extended play from the starters.

Saturday – New York Giants at Baltimore Ravens If there was any doubt in anyone’s mind that football was back, video of the bloody gash that Eli Manning received in Week 1 of the preseason quickly removed it.

Manning’s injury status will be one of the key storylines this Saturday when the New York Giants visit the Baltimore Ravens.

Manning required 12 stitches to patch up the laceration, which kept him out of last week’s 24-17 loss to Pittsburgh. The loss dropped the Giants to 1-1 both SU and ATS this preseason. While Manning may see some action having practiced this week, backup Rhett Bomar (13/26, 167 yards, one interception last week) will likely receive the lion’s share of snaps once again.

Baltimore is off to a great start this preseason with wins and covers over Carolina in Week 1 (17-12) and Washington last week (23-3). Baltimore’s stingy defense was swarming, allowing the Redskins only three points while forcing four turnovers. With only 15 points surrendered this preseason, both of the Ravens’ first two contests have gone UNDER the total.

Sunday – Pittsburgh Steelers at Denver Broncos Both Pittsburgh and Denver got off to great starts last regular season (6-2 and 6-0, respectively), only to falter down the stretch and fall short of the playoffs. This year, they are both looking for redemption, but their preseasons are off to very different starts, setting up an interesting matchup this Sunday night in Denver.

For Pittsburgh, the preseason has been a success so far, with a 23-7 win and cover Week 1 against Detroit, and a 24-17 win and cover last week against the Giants. Byron Leftwich and Dennis Dixon have both looked strong this preseason, and will have to continue to be through September while Ben Roethlisberger serves his suspension.

enver, meanwhile, has had a rocky preseason at 0-2 SU and ATS with losses to Cincinnati and Detroit. While it’s only the preseason, for a team that ended last season on a 2-8 skid some momentum would be nice heading into 2010. Kyle Orton has been a bright spot though, going 24/35 for 261 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception this preseason.
