NFL Football Betting – Top Offensive Rookie - Dez Bryant

This year’s crop of NFL offensive rookies is laden with potential breakout stars. SportsBetting.com helps you get primed for Thursday’s season kickoff with NFL betting odds on which player will garner the Associated Press Offensive Player of the Year award. There really is no consensus, but a lot of viable candidates to make your football odds selection from.

- Dez Bryant 2/1

The co-favorite at the moment, Dez Bryant is coming off a terrific college career, but with some off-field baggage. Bryant is an explosive receiver, with potentially the most upside of any player in June’s draft. Currently, he has both Roy Williams and Miles Austin ahead of him in the receiving corps. That said, the Cowboys do throw a lot. At 2/1, his value is okay, nothing special. You’d like him to start if you’re going to bet on him.

- Ryan Matthews 2/1

The other favorite in this NFL odds prop, Matthews is being counted on by every so-called expert to assume the over 300 carries that his predecessor enjoyed in San Diego. We don’t see it. Norv Turner is a veteran coach and we think Darren Sproles will be used early and often. Still, Ryan Matthews will have an impact. But if you think back to the rookie year for Chris Johnson in Tennessee, you’ll recall even he had to split time.

- Ben Tate 3/1

In Houston, an emphasis on running the ball more is being made for this season. The drafting of Ben Tate is evidence of that. However, with Steve Slaton still kicking around, Tate will be hard pressed to get the bulk of the carries. This is another situation that isn’t ideal. The Texans are an aerial team and don’t have a great run history. At 3/1, the odds are a little low for Tate.

- Jahvid Best 5/1

Best is the best option in this category. Yes, Kevin Jones is still in the fold, but his injury suffered last season was gruesome. We love the upside of Best. His speed and pedigree are high and the Lions offense should be explosive in 2010. Matthew Stafford will be better, and that bodes well for Best. If you’re going to lay a football odds bet on the top offensive rookie, we recommend Best.
