Spain vs Netherlands World Cup Final odds

One month of intense soccer competition has come down to two teams. The defending European Cup champions from Spain take on the unexpectedly-efficient Dutch in the final match on Sunday.

The Spanish made their way to the final with a hard-fought semifinal match against the Germans, a team that they also beat in the Euro Cup final two years ago by the identical score of 1 – 0.

Spain was the soccer-betting favorite in the game versus Germany, but the way the Germans had outplayed and dominated so much of this competition, the momentum was clearly with the Germans, as Spain had yet to reach its potential in any game of the tournament.

But from the outset, it was Spain who dominated the Germans, coming at them with wave after wave of Spanish chances, never giving the German defense time to regroup and keeping the pressure intense enough to avoid the vaunted German counterattack.

For the Dutch’s part, it was their magnificent comeback victory over Brazil in the quarterfinals that truly defined their trip to this World Cup final. After being down 1 – 0 after only ten minutes of play, the Netherlands rallied back to send Brazil packing, and themselves off to the semifinals.

They faced the pesky Uruguayans in the Semi’s, a team that had eked out a controversial shut-out victory over Ghana, and were without some key players in the game.

Though the Uruguayans didn’t roll over, this game was Holland’s to lose. They controlled the pace, and although they showed some weakness on defense, it was a solid win for the Dutch.

Now these two teams face off with Spain the slight -200 favorite to hoist the 2010 World Cup.

Spain finally started to take form in their game versus Germany and is heading into this game with a full head of steam.

Not that the Dutch seem vulnerable; they have played consistently organized throughout the tournament, but this Spanish side seems destined for greatness.

You can catch the World Cup final on Sunday at 2:30 PM ET.
