So the 2010 World Cup is just around the corner, and in order for the soccer betting fans to realize which teams to trust and which to avoid, I have made a Power Ranking based on team performance, playmakers, coaches, and history at the tournament:
32. New Zealand: They shouldn’t be here if Australia hadn’t gone to the Asia Zone to qualify, it is that simple.
31. North Korea: Their group is the toughest, so don’t expect them to make a point.
30. Honduras: Too many injuries, no experience and no real playmakers.
29. Algeria: This is a French team dressed as Africans; they eliminated the three-time African champions Egypt, and they deserve some respect.
28. South Africa: Yeah you guessed right, they wouldn’t be here if they weren’t the host.
27. Slovenia: They should be able to give a fight, but they have no real playmakers.
26. Nigeria: They lost their star John Obi Mikel, so don’t expect much from them.
25. Greece: A defensive wall that won’t have the same luck as in the Euro 2004.
24. Japan: They haven’t grown at all since 2002.
23. Switzerland: Great defensive team, but they are in a “Latin” group, which means trouble. They can match the Latino style.
22. Cameroon: Samuel Eto’o is their playmaker, but you can trust a team that has a veteran like this one.
21. Slovakia: Look for Marek Hamsik on the field; you’ll have fun.
20. South Korea: They are a disciplined and fun team to watch. They have a shot to be at the round of 16.
19. Ghana: With the loss of Michale Essien, they won’t pass the group stage.
18. Serbia: Great defensive team; very disciplined.
17. Australia: The “Socceros” will shock everybody in Group D.
16. Denmark: They should be able to at least be second in Group E.
15. Uruguay: Perhaps they have the best attacking duo out of all the 32 teams with Suarez- Forlan.
14. Paraguay: Too bad Salvador Cabañas is out; Paraguay is a disciplined and fast team that could mean trouble for the rivals.
13. United States: Their objective is to be at least in the second round, their group should let them.
12. Mexico: With a combination of experience and young explosive players, Mexico will upset everybody in Group A. Don’t be surprised if they win the group.
11. Chile: Their coach is called “the crazy Bielsa;” he is crazy all right, but in a good way.
10. Ivory Cost: This is the best squad from Africa, but without Didi Drogba in the first two games, it will be impossible for them to make it to the next stage.
9. France: They are the runner-ups from last World Cup, but I got this feeling that in this one they are going to be a major disappointment.
8. Italy: Same squad that won the tournament four years ago, just older and with no real shots to repeat. They should get to the quarterfinals, at least.
7. Germany: I would put them in the semifinals already. I don’t know how they do it, but they always find a way to be in the final four.
6. Portugal: They have arguably the best player in the World, Cristiano Ronaldo, who can lead this team to win the World Cup.
5. Netherlands: Awesome squad with an amazing playing style, I think this year might be it. However every four years we say the same thing…
4. England: Their chances rely on the coach as Fabio Capello has won it all in soccer.
3. Argentina: Their attack is just simple and out of this world, but their coach could be their down side.
2. Brazil: Think about this, they are Brazilians and nobody plays offensive football prettier and better than them, and now coach Dunga has taught them how to defend.
1. Spain: Their golden generation arrives at this tournament knowing that they can win big games. Spain is packed with playmakers, great playing style and a great coach. Finding a low spot is almost impossible with this team.
